About the Position


This position will report to a Senior Scientist, Oncology and be based in Vancouver, BC.


Zymeworks is seeking an Associate Scientist to join the Oncology team. This position will focus on the design, execution, and analysis of in vitro bioassays to identify immunooncology therapeutic candidates and evaluate their mechanisms of action, with an emphasis on bispecific antibodies and antibody-cytokine fusions and their immunomodulatory effects. This highly motivated multidisciplinary team is responsible for driving pipeline program advancement and creating best-in-class therapeutics.


Qualified candidates will have a background in immunology or a related discipline with the ability to independently design, execute and interpret experiments. The ideal candidate would have an in-depth knowledge of the immune system and how it relates to cancer as well as being highly proficient in multiple analysis modalities, including a variety of in vitro cell-based assays, multi-color flow cytometry, ELISA, electrochemiluminescence (MSD) and ex vivo immune assays. Excellent communication skills, organization skills and enthusiasm for teamwork are essential.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assists with the design, implementation, execution and analysis of in vitro and in vivo studies in collaboration with a larger research team to advance potential immuno-oncology therapeutics.
  • Records experimental data and writes in depth notebook entries.
  • Reviews experimental process and data with supervisor, and/or coworkers as appropriate.
  • Presents the progress of experiments to others.
  • May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
  • Contributes to scientific literature and conferences.
  • Fosters effective and collaborative working relationships with fellow employees and management.



Qualifications and Experience

  • PhD in Immunology or a related subject. Additional experience, for example postdoctoral work, would be an advantage.
  • Expert knowledge of immune cell biology, focussing on T and/or NK cell biology. Knowledge of the interaction between the immune system and the tumour microenvironment.
  • Demonstrated experience of in vitro experiments to examine immune cell biology – in particular tumour-immune co-culture assays, T cell activation and survival assays
  • Extensive Flow cytometry experience, including multiparameter, intracellular and phosphoflow.
  • In vivo experience with syngeneic or xenograft tumour models as well as ex vivo analysis of immune cells taken from these models would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Flowjo and Prism
